Some images just don’t make good paintings.
It’s an overcast day and Dozer had a friend come over to visit. I am always fascinated by the way dogs interact with one another so I grab my camera and start snapping away. Within an hour I can easily take 500 photos or more. The results are a vast array of dog movements some pleasing others just odd. Every now and then I get that one shot that just begs to be turned into a painting. I didn’t get that today!
On this particular day there are a lot of wrestling shots. These are not images that are painting worthy, at least not to me. They do however have their own unique value. What I see are a series of movements, a form of dance between dogs. These two, Dozer, a four year old American Bulldog and Jenson, a 6 month old Golden Retriever are meeting for the first time. Jenson is learning about dominance. He places his paws on Dozer’s back and Dozer happily engages in a play wrestle.
Dozer is my dog and I know his moves well. While puppy Jenson easily flips on his back and starts to mouth at Dozer’s feet Dozer performs a move I call the “Bulldog 180”. This is the precursor to the “Tubby Two By Four Squash” where Dozer will literally spin and sit on his friend.
As the saying goes a picture is worth a thousand words. Without further ado here is Dozer and his buddy Jenson engaging in what we affectionately call the “Bulldog 180”. Although it may not make for a very good painting it is usually good for a laugh.
